The story so far

“Joey and the Pints” was formed in November 2023 in a college music room. Joey had a keen interest in forming a band that relied heavily on improvisation and spontaneous interplay between musicians, so he asked drummer Al Power and bassist Tyler Murphy to jam with him on a few songs he had written. After the first song, it was clear ‘The Pints’ had been found.

“Joey and the Pints” draws on a wide range of influences from Jazz, Rock, Punk, Trad, and Cuban music to create a performance that is incomparable to anything else. Playing the music of the great Jazz composers of the 20th century, as well as original tunes written by the band, Joey and the Pints promises audiences a high-energy performance that will leave you feeling amazed, confused, and like you’ve had a few too many pints.

“Joey and the Pints” is a collaboration between 3 aspiring Jazz musicians currently studying Jazz and Contemporary music in DCU.

Joey can be seen playing with various bands, including a funk trio, a trad trio, “Let us Be Frank”, and duets with various singers. Joey is a comedian and performance artist, incorporating these arts into the “Joey and the Pints” sets.

Al Power is a multi-instrumentalist and bandleader of straight-ahead jazz group “The Power Trio” as well as the fully improvised music of “Here and Now”. Al can also be seen playing with various Irish acts and trad musicians.

Tyler Murphy is an electric and upright bassist in high demand on the Dublin Jazz scene. Playing in bands such as “The Power Trio”, “Here and Now”, and “Yurmah”.
